Top 5 Best Written Television Shows

(1 = Best)
  1. 5.
    The Sopranos
There is no top five lust for TV that shouldn't include The Sopranos. At the bottom of this list, The Sopranos is a very well done shows and paved the way for the future of television.
  2. 4.
    The Office
As a character study The Office is nearly flawless. Bordering on Shakespearean The Office has continually proved its romanticism, hilariousness, ridiculousness, and overall brilliance.
  3. 3.
    The Wire
Like The Sopranos this show also paved the way for the future of television. But as far as writing goes The Wire is far more remarkable. Every season covers a separate topic of corruption from dock workers to politicians to educators. It's jam packed and requires multiple viewings. Follow the pieces.
  4. 2.
    Breaking Bad
Breaking Bad exhibits almost every rule of writing. Good story, complicated characters, hidden themes and messages and meanings within the dialogue and representations of characters. I put it one above The Wire because I believe that Breaking Bad has a much better pace with it's writing. It does have its slow moments, but The Wire had its slow seasons.
  5. 1.
    Arrested Development
I put this at the top because everything I said about each show before can be said about Arrested Development. Each and every episode is to a T absolutely brilliant. There are things written in the background that are hidden messages for what might happen later. The characters are all insane but in their own way. The comedy is continuous and layered. And LAYERED is the key word here. Try to unfold Arrested Development and you'll find yourself with an encyclopedia.
