My favorite movies & tv shows about radio

Just a collection of tv shows and movies that I love - that are all about my passion, broadcast radio. LMK if I missed your fav BTW these are in no particular order
  1. MOVIES & TV BASED ON RADIO
  2. Pirate Radio
A true story about a British Radio station that broadcasts from the middle of the ocean to avoid laws against the transmission of Rock and Roll music. Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Bill Nye and Rys Efans plus MANY other amazing actors make up this incredible cast. It's set in the 60's and the costuming is on point. Plus there is a true life kick ass story line.
  3. WKRP in Cincinnati
This was my FIRST radio tv show ever and it was the BEST! Johnny Fever was a ROCK GOD and I've wanted to be Bailey Quarters ever since - the radio intern that becomes the smarty pants news woman - what more could a girl ever want?!?
  4. Pump Up the Volume
Christian Slater is Mark Hunter/Hard Harry who runs an underground radio station and rants against adults and the hypocrisy he sees in the world. A real solid coming of age movie full of teen angst.
  5. News Radio
All I really need to say is one name: Phil Hartman. This was such an incredible show. The writing and the acting are some of the best I've ever seen on television. Hartman passed away before the fifth season and that was tough but the show was still very funny it was just missing a BIG PART that couldn't be replaced.
  6. Talk To Me
Taraji P. Henson is bae, she can do no wrong. Don Cheadle plays Petey Green, a DC area jock who became a popular radio host despite his ex con status. Another movie based on a true story that you should check out.
  7. Private Parts
Confession time: I've been a Stern fan ever since I was a teenager. Something about the way he said and did things that OUTRAGED people, it helped evolve my vulgar and sick sense of humor that I pride myself on today. His books are a riot and so was this movie. I absolutely love me some nerdy, dorky Stern from back in his college days.
  8. Good Morning Vietnam
This movie was the first time I realized that you can laugh thru tears. Another true story based on Adrian Cronauer of the AFRS, it plays out in Saigon, 1965 during the Vietnam War. Robin Williams improvised most of his radio scenes and is so damn funny in this role!
  9. Straight Talk
Dolly Parton y'all! She plays a girl from a small country town who gets mistaken for a Talk Radio advice Phycologist in Chicago. Plus there is James Woods & Jerry Orbach.
  10. Air Heads
Adam Sandler, Steve Buscemi and Brendan Frazier are the Lone Rangers a band who can't get signed - when they have a genius idea to hold the people at their local rock station hostage in order to get attention for their album. Really a funny flick plus you've got the late great Chris Farley and Michael Richards in the cast.
  11. A Prairie Home Companion
The long running live radio show A Prairie Home Companion is in serious danger of being cancelled and the movie takes place on the night of their very last performance. It's Robert Altman's final film he directed before his death with an incredible ensemble cast including Meryl Streep, Kevin Kline, Tommy Lee Jones, Woody Harrelson, Lily Tomlin, Garrison Keillor, Virginia Madsen, John C. Reilly, and Lindsay Lohan.
  12. Talk Radio
Just caught this one for the first time a couple weeks back and all I can say is WOW!!! Set back in the hay day of modern radio the 1980's it's a story about a shock jock talk radio host and how he interacts with listeners and effects the lives people in the NYC area. Based on the real life events and book Talked to Death: The Life & Murder of Alan Berg, it's also directed by Oliver Stone.
