MISUNDERSTOOD PIECES OF POP CULTURE
I don't have much of a presence on here, but it still gives me peace of mind knowing I've publicly gone to bat for these underappreciated, oft-maligned gems.
- 1.FelicityDo you even know why Felicity cut her hair?! To free herself of the idea that her appearance defined her self-worth and identity. It was written in the script, God dammit! I'll lie down on a set of train tracks for Felicity. That's how much I believe in the emotional powerhouse that is Keri Russell, with her tear-filled whispers and searing monologues. This is JJ Abrams at his finest, and you can watermark that on all my important documents.
- 2.Lindsay Lohan's musicHer second album, A Little More Personal (RAW), is a pop rock masterpiece. Allow me to recommend If It's Alright, My Innocence, Black Hole, and of course, Confessions of A Broken Heart. When she builds the I love yous over the bridge and finally cries out I LOVE YOU at the end--Are you kidding me?!?!
- 3.The Da Vinci Code movieObviously they made a second and now a third is coming, but this still gets a bad rap. Yes, I read the book before I saw it, and you know what? I had a grand time. Hans Zimmer's score, particularly Chevaliers de Sangreal, took my breath away. Audrey Tautou shouting "Did you keel Jacques Saunier?!" stole the movie for me. Tom Hanks is an American Treasure. It's all 💯💯💯. And so quotable.
- 4."Teen" content in generalThe world of YA literature&TV is where it's AT, and yet there's this shame, as if once you reach a certain age it's no longer acceptable to appreciate work about the most formative time in one's life. If this applies to you, you are ASLEEP on the most emotionally rewarding contemporary content available. REFERENCES AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST.
