  1. The Watts Riots
    I don't remember seeing much of the television coverage, but I remember my parents talking about it and being concerned.
  2. What I recall most is my parents sitting with me in our living room and very specifically telling me that all people were equal and that I should never judge or fear any person just because they looked different from me.
  3. President Kennedy's assassination was the first television coverage I recall—a year prior to the riots. I was five.
    I don't remember the assassination coverage, but I distinctly remember the television coverage of a train. It was on, it seemed, for hours. Just this train, moving slowly through open spaces.
