I love when the Grammy nominations come out - not cuz of who got snubbed or what the indie darling surprises are, but because it gives me an opportunity to dig into some music I wouldn't normally listen to.
  1. Julieta Venegas - Algo Sucede
Best Latin Pop Album nominee. Soothing AF.
  2. Anthony Brown & group therApy - "Worth"
    Hell yea. Sweet gospel tune.
  3. Andra Day - Cheers To The Fall
Best R&B Album & Performance nominee. "Forever Mine" is something special.
  4. Hiatus Kaiyote - "Breathing Underwater"
Stellar track. Best R&B Performance nominee.
  5. Shemekia Copeland - "Crossbone Beach"
I didn't love this Best Blues Album nominee, but this song got its hooks in me.
  6. Alex Cuba - Healer
Best Latin Pop Album nominee. "Sarah" and "Beautiful Mistake" are standouts.
  7. Cedric Burnside Project - Descendents of Hill County
Best Blues Album nominee. I've always enjoyed RL Burnside, as I got there via Jon Spencer Blues Explosion. Feeling these Cedric Burnside tunes.
  8. Brandi Carlile - The Firewatcher's Daughter
This album is nominated in the Americana Album category and it's so good. I know she's huge, but I wouldn't have heard her stuff otherwise.
  9. Jonathan McReynolds - "Gotta Have You"
Life Music: Stage Two (Best Gospel Album nominee) is okay but this standout tune is fun and sweet.
