My first list so I'm testing
  1. "The Door Into Summer" by Robert Heinlein - first read as teen - my inspiration to become an engineer.
  2. "Snow Crash" by Neal Stephenson - A mix of Future America and Virtual Reality - some say the inspiration for "Second Life" and "Kaneva" long before "Oculus Rift"
  3. "The Martian" by Andy Weir - A mix of hard science and survival fiction - book better than movie.
  4. "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep" by Philip Dick - the inspiration for the movie "Blade Runner" - movie is better than book - NOTE: "Blade Runner 2" is on the production table.
  5. "Childhood's End" by AC Clarke - The fate of the evolving human species in the hands of superior alien beings - mostly a philosophy book.
  6. "3001 The Final Odyssey" by AC Clarke - yep it's the final book in the series (2001, 2010, 2061, 3001) - everything gets wrapped up - a lot of philosophy, future technology, and some action.
