As I get older I calm down about stuff, and these are the top thoughts that have enabled that.
  1. Everyone does the best they can with what they possess at the time.
Except for the truly criminally insane, I believe that, at the moment of decision, people feel that the actions they take are the correct ones. Whether they feel justified or deserving or fearful, they are making what they feel are the correct decisions. This eliminates the need for me to judge their intent and look instead at them and their situation.
  2. No one can truly know what another person is feeling or thinking.
Because we are not connected to reach other's nervous systems, we cannot know for sure. It is impossible Even if they tell us. That is a tremendous freedom. We don't have to know. It is not required because we can't. We are free to listen and observe without judgement or worry that we don't know for sure.
  3. If I argue for my limitations, they are mine.
If I say I cannot do something, or am not good at something, or don't like something, the only person I am actually convincing is me. By simply stopping this self talk, I am reducing my limitations. And that is the only way to reduce them.
