Names of Animals Indigenous to the Smokies That j.k. Rowling Would Dig

A list of some incredible animal names mentioned casually in Bill Bryson's "A Walk in the Woods" that makes me think the Smokies are somehow also the backwoods of Hogwarts.
  1. Hellbender
    A salamander that can reach up to 2 feet.
  2. Monkeyface Pearlymussel, Purple Wartyback, Shiny Pigtoe
    Mussels.
  3. Smokey Madtom
    A fish both discovered and made extinct in the same breath in 1957 by PARK SERVICE BIOLOGISTS, of all people. (The species was later rediscovered in a nearby stream in 1980).
  4. Balsam Woolly Adelgid
    A moth that is destroying the Fraser fir population.
