Music(ish) for to Get Stuff Done By! 😬

I spend an awful amount of time studying, or working while sitting at my computer. Whether it's working on a wireless design, or writing a blog, doing research for a client, or some other business related thing, I typically have my headphones on with music. Here are some of my recent favorites.
  1. I used to listen to soundtracks like Star Wars, Raiders, you know, a lot of John Williams stuff. But, I found the themes to strong and pulled my concentration. I've moved to stuff that's less theme oriented, or that has strong hooks, with more open space, and abstract sounds.
  2. Also, a nice hit of Adderall doesn't hurt either! 😃
  3. Noizio App (Mac/iOS)
I know, I know. Its not a soundtrack and its not musical. But, this is a fantastic app for drowning out outside noise. You can select from a myriad of audioscpes. Thunder & Rain, Ocean, Rain Forest, Desert, Fire, Deep Space - it's a must have.
  4. Stranger Things vol. 1 & 2
Love this 80s style soundtrack and the show is great too! —-
  5. Oblivion (2013)
Great electronic mixed with orchestral score. Under appreciated film in my opinion. —
  6. Halt & Catch Fire Soundtrack
I watched about half the first season and haven't really gone back. But, I really dig the electronic soundtrack. —-
  7. All Is Lost Soundtrack (2013)
I've never seen this Robert Redford film (heard it's good ¯\_(ツ)_/¯), but I have eaten at his restaurant! Really simple, sparse score. Perfect to lose yourself in your work. —-
  8. Kubo and the Two Strings (2016)
One of my absolute favorite films from 2016! Simply stunning stop-motion animation. Literally unlike anything you've ever seen and a great story to boot! And, of course, great score. —-
  9. Tron Legacy (2010)
Movie's ok. But, the soundtrack, by Daft Punk, is awesome!—-
  10. Tron Legacy RECONFIGURED (2011)
A remix that actually improves on the original. —-
  11. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014)
I loved this movie! And great score by Michael Giacchino. Very percussive and rhythmicly interesting. He's really come into his own after Lost. —-
  12. John Carter (2012)
I think this is an underrated movie that got way more hate than it deserved. Another great score by Giacchino with a Middle Eastern twist. —-
  13. Edward Scissorhands (1990)
Quirky film with a quirky soundtrack as you'd expect from Danny Elfman —-
  14. Star Trek (2009)
Giacchino is one of my favorite film composers (if you haven't guessed). —
  15. Ender's Game (2013)
Movie was, "meh", but I dig the soundtrack. —-
  16. Interstellar (2014)
A lot of people hate this movie. And the score was controversial too. I think it had more to do with how loud the score was in the film than the score itself. I didn't think I'd like it, but it turns out to be much more quiet, lovely, and introspective than it seems in the film. Lots of space and "non-music" works for me. —-
  17. The Americans (FX)
This show is just fantastic! And i love the music on the show. They use alot of great pop music on the show, but this is the original score. Unfortunately, there's no soundtrack available as far as I can tell, but someone thoughtfully put together this compilation on YouTube —-
  18. Battlestar Galactica (2005)
One of my all-time favorite shows (after Firefly, of course). I have always loved the super-percussive soundtrack. When this topic came up on Twitter of few weeks ago someone mentioned this and I immediately added it my list. I can't believe I forgot about it! All seasons music here on the YouTubes —-
  19. Firefly (2005)
THE greatest show EVAR! (I will not argue this point. 😎) the soundtrack is close to my heart, of course. Its a blend of western, bluegrassy, twang with a healthy mix of world music. —
  20. I got a lot more, but recently, these are the ones that really help me get down to business. Headphones on, music playing and I'm gone.
