The entire packing procedure is an exercise in paranoia. BECAUSE ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN. Any outfit combo may be needed. Freak weather changes, sudden fancy dinners, impromptu outdoor experiences, shoe demise, bra underwire escape, food spill requiring a wash, it's ALL happened.
  1. Two pairs of jeans
    One dark rinse, one light.
  2. One more pair of jeans
    Ankle length, for flats.
  3. Skirts
One long, one short. In case of fancy dinner out. Or not wanting to wear jeans anymore.
  4. Leggings
To sleep in. To relax in.
  5. A plethora of tops for any occasion
This is the mother load. Piled high on the bed- higher than the actual suitcase will allow. Sleeveless, short-sleeved, camis, light cardigans, unless it's winter- then several sweaters, all in a variety of colors, mostly black. I just throw them all in- no pre-planning outfits here!
  6. Bras
At least two, nude & black. Packed strategically so they don't get crushed.
  7. Underwear
Number of mornings I'll be away + 3 (also skirt undies if packing skirts)
  8. Shoes
Three pairs- tall wedges for jeans- also fancy enough for skirts, complete flats for ankle jeans, and a comfy sneaker for walking around. (Also an airport-friendly pair: easy on & off)
  9. Socks
    For sneakers, or if winter.
  10. Shower needs
Shampoo, conditioner, body wash, shower pouf, razor, face wash
  11. Prep & Wash Up
Deodorant, body powder, body lotion, face toner & cleansing makeup wipes, extra nail polish for touch-ups
  12. Makeup
Mattifier, foundation primer, foundation, eyeshadow primer, blush, eyeshadow, mascara
  13. Makeup brushes
Foundation brush, eye shadow brushes, eye liner brush, big powder brush, maybe the blush brush.
  14. Someone brawny to carry it all!
    Maybe the husband. Fingers crossed.
