These are things I do to pass the time when I cannot sleep...some are productive, others less so,'s 6:57am and I'm on an air mattress for the holidays, so let's get started!
  1. Wake up pissed off. I'm gonna need you to really COMMIT- no fucking around. Throw those covers off and stomp to the bathroom- because "Good morning, bladder!"
  2. Try to go back to sleep.
I truly recommend a podcast called "Sleep with Me". It's this old man who talks about nonsensical things (so that you don't engage)...and he sounds about as interesting as your grandfather talking about the menu at Luby's. It's glorious and boring at the same time.
  3. If you can't go back to sleep, read.
I read all of the time. In the words of Nora Ephron, "I read to calm my mind, and I read to stimulate it." It also makes me think about the world in different ways. I'm a children's librarian, so I teeter between reading for stimulation and reading to help others find their "gateway" book. These are two books I am currently reading...on the air mattress.
  4. Go through your camera roll and reflect on nights you actually CHOSE to not idiot. But they were fun times. Here are a few of them (some I recall better than others).

  15. Worry too much
Someday when I get super brave, I will make a list about what it's like (for me) to have anxiety and depression. I can only say that my issues are mostly anxiety-driven, but I do have depressive episodes. You wouldn't think it because...look at the pictures directly above you. Mine occur about every 5-7 years; they don't last and they're short lived. But that is only MY story. One thing I am trying to NOT worry about (as much) is being real about it. You'd be surprised how many people connect.
  16. Make a list!
It organizes my brain and helps distract me from the fact that my parents got rid of my old bed and now I'm on an air mattress.
