THINGS THAT MOVE ME TO INCREDIBLE MELANCHOLY

(And the Infinite Sadness)
  1. The sight of the DC Children's Hospital ambulance, sirens wailing, racing down the street.
  2. An elderly person, dining alone
I travel solo a good bit and so I dine solo very often. But when I see someone above the age of 70 dining alone, I immediately assume they're a widow(er).
  3. People sleeping outside of a homeless shelter
  4. When my grandmother talks about how much she misses my grandfather
Met in June of 1952. Married in September 1952. Never spent a night apart until he suffered a brain hemorrhage in August 2013. Died almost exactly one year later.
  5. The ASPCA commercials
  6. Children in wheelchairs
