Books and Movies by the Numbers: 2016

  1. Movies watched: 150
I realized I was close to hitting 150 on December 30, so I crammed in some short ones. Thanks Muppets and Disney!
  2. Movies I'd seen before: 46
I love rewatching great movies, but I also love seeing new ones for the first time. I'm glad I did more of the latter this year.
  3. Movies I watched twice in this same year: 2
    Central Intelligence and Moana
  4. Documentaries: 4
Not a huge number, but maybe more than I usually watch. I want this number to be higher next year.
  5. In the theater: 33
PTL for living in Texas where movie tickets can be cheap! I can usually hit a matinee for $3-5.
  6. Alone in the theater: 10
Before January, I'd never seen a movie by myself, but now I'm so into it. The freedom to only take my schedule into account and just see whatever I want whenever I want is wonderful.
  7. Favorite movie I'd never seen before from each month:
Jan - Spotlight. Feb - Rocky II. March - Zootopia. April - The Jungle Book (live action). May - Captain America: Civil War. June - Central Intelligence. July - Ghostbusters (2016). Aug - Hello, My Name is Doris. Sept - The Magnificent Seven. Oct - The Namesake. Nov - Moana. Dec - Lion.
  8. Books read: 67
Next year, I think I'd like this number to reflect at least 2 books for every movie, but this ratio isn't bad.
  9. Books I'd read before: 10
A lot of these I read again for a book club.
  10. Non-fiction: 29
10 more than last year, so I'm pumped about that.
  11. For a book club: 13
I'm in 2 book clubs. It's hard to schedule everyone, so that's 9 for one and 4 for the other. I wish both book clubs could consistently meet once a month.
  12. Total pages: 21,673
  13. Favorite book I'd never read before from each month:
Jan- 11/22/63 by Stephen King. Feb- In a Dark Dark Wood by Ruth Ware. March- Red Rising by Pierce Brown. April- Morning Star by Pierce Brown. May- Alexander Hamilton by Ron Chernow. June- The Quartet by Jospeh Ellis. July- Three Wishes by Liane Moriarty. Aug- Harry Potter and the Cursed Child by JK Rowling (and those other guys). Sept- Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson. Oct- The American President by Kathryn Moore. Nov- Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty. Dec- Rejected Princesses by Jason Porath
