January Movies

I made it through an embarrassing amount of movies last month... 🔁=a movie I'd seen before.
  1. 1.
    Criminal
It was on HBO. It was fine. Honestly, I may have fallen asleep for 20-30 minutes in the middle.
  2. 2.
    Free State of Jones
Also fine. Wanted it to be something more/better.
  3. 3.
    The Baby-Sitters Club
🔁 @calliestorie had never seen it, so we fixed that. It made me want to reread my entire BSC collection.
  4. 4.
    Jason Bourne
Honestly, it bored me? I don't know.
  5. 5.
    Florence Foster Jenkins
Meryl! How does she do it?
  6. 6.
    Race
    Really liked this one.
  7. 7.
    Gladiator
🔁 I decided to watch all the Oscar winners from the 2000s before this year's, so this was my starting point. I hadn't seen it since the theaters, and honestly, I don't like it. Booooring. And Russell Crowe is just not my favorite.
  8. 8.
    Hidden Figures
    YAAAASSSSS!!!!! 💙💙💙
  9. 9.
    Southside with You
After Obama's farewell address, I just needed to watch this. It's adorable.
  10. 10.
    A Beautiful Mind
🔁 Best Picture 2001. Despite what I said about Russell above, he is great in this movie.
  11. 11.
    Olympus Has Fallen
    Meh.
  12. 12.
    Midnight Special
I heard raves and expected something different. It was fine, but weird.
  13. 13.
    Friday
🔁 In one of our staff meetings, my friends were quoting this movie a bunch and I just had to rewatch it.
  14. 14.
    Chicago
🔁 Best Picture 2002. I love this movie.
  15. 15.
    Nightcrawler
Not enough people rave about this movie and Jake did not win enough awards for his performance in it!
  16. 16.
    Demolition
    Nightcrawler was better.
  17. 17.
    Bright Lights
Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds had such a sweet relationship.
  18. 18.
    Return of the King
🔁 Best Picture 2003. I have lots of unpopular opinions about this movie. But I think everyone can agree with me that Samwise Gamgee is the absolute best and whiny little Frodo did not deserve such a pure and sweet friend.
  19. 19.
    Meet the Robinsons
🔁 Underrated. Introduced my friends 3 sons to it while babysitting them and they were so enthralled they couldn't even eat their dinner.
  20. 20.
    Split
I LOVED THIS MOVIE. It was everything I hoped it would be and so much more.
  21. 21.
    Don't Think Twice
Funny and sad. I really liked it.
  22. 22.
    Million Dollar Baby
    🔁 Best Picture 2004. 😭😭😭
  23. 23.
    Crash
🔁 Best Picture 2005. Also one of the most controversial wins in Academy history. Even the director later said he didn't think they deserved to win that year.
  24. 24.
    The Little Rascals
🔁 My friend's kids discovered this movie and couldn't stop quoting it, so I had to give it a rewatch. Also, do yourself a favor and look up pictures of Waldo now. He Longbottomed for sure.
  25. 25.
    The Departed
🔁 Best Picture 2006. Wow, I'd seen this movie before but I think I forgot literally everything about it. Really enjoyed watching it again.
  26. 26.
    Moonlight
    😭😭😭
  27. 27.
    No Country for Old Men
🔁 Best Picture 2007. I love this movie. I know some people don't, and I think I get why, but something about it is just so great to me.
  28. 28.
    A Little Princess
🔁 Sometimes you're sick and you just want to turn on something inconsequential. I'd recently reread this book, so this seemed like a good choice. It's SO different from the book and I never realized. Weird.
