Inspired by @MatthewAlmont (did I trace it back to the correct first person?) I've been seeing a bunch of people make these lists and I love the idea! But also...I'm old and this was kind of exhausting. Is listing so many honorable mentions cheating? It's the only way I could get through this alive. It's like choosing among beloved children.
  1. 1982 - Annie
    It just makes me want to sing and dance! Honorable mentions: Rocky III (though I only saw it for the first time a couple months ago) and Poltergeist
  2. 1983 - Twilight Zone: The Movie
    This one surprised me. A lot of famous movies came out this year, but I haven't seen them yet. Honorable Mentions: The Outsiders (for the cute boys and teen angst) and Return of the Jedi (for the Ewoks)
  3. 1984 - Gremlins
    Gizmo is so cute! Honorable Mentions: Footloose, Splash, Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter, Sixteen Candles, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, Ghostbusters, Amadeus
  4. 1985 - The Goonies
    Tough year, but Goonies is tied for my favorite movie ever. Honorable Mentions: The Breakfast Club, Girls Just Want to Have Fun, Back to the Future, Pee Wee's Big Adventure, Clue
  5. 1986 - Stand by Me
    Coming-of-age movies will always get me. Honorable Mentions: Pretty in Pink, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, The Great Mouse Detective, An American Tail, Star Trek IV (time travel! saving whales!). Fun fact: they rereleased Lady in the Tramp this year and it's the first movie I remember seeing in theaters!
