I've got another meditation technique for y'all!
  1. This one is SO easy
  2. You can do it at any point during the day, ALL day, for as long or as little as you like
  3. Just by breathing
  4. Tonglen is the practice of sending and receiving through the breath
  5. It is a practice of creating space in our own lives by breathing through our pains, sending love out to others
  6. Breaking down our own barriers by breathing
  7. I learned this from Pema Chodron's book "When Things Fall Apart"
An INCREDIBLE book, if you haven't read it
  8. You see, when you think about focusing on the breath, most people this about breathing in the good and exhaling the bad
I.e. Inhale the good shit exhale the bullshit
  9. Well tonglen tells you to do THE EXACT OPPOSITE
  10. "It is a practice of taking in pain and sending out pleasure"
  11. Why is this?
  12. Well, it tells you to think about all of the others in the world that are going through the same pains as you are
  13. Or, think about all the people out there that have it way worse than you do
  14. Breathe in for them
Breathe in their troubles, their worries, their pains. Breathe in as if your breath could take away their problems for them.
  15. Exhale love to them
Send all of your positive energy out into the world for all of those people.
  16. You think this may feel burdensome on you but you'd be amazed that it actually makes you feel the opposite of that
  17. By sharing your love with others, you actually begin to open up and relax yourself.
  18. "Whenever we encounter happiness in any form, the instruction is to breathe it out, send it out, with the wish that everyone could feel joy"
    Straight from Pema Chodron herself
  19. "It's a practice that allows people to feel less burdened and less cramped, a practice that shows us how to love without conditions"
  20. Unconditional love
  21. Just simply by breathing
  22. That's a pretty powerful tool, don't you think?
  23. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
