Driving (Riding) Across the State of Montana, AMA

Just me and my mom. And she won't let me listen to Hamilton, original OR mixtape. Pray for me, y'all.
  1. What's the view right now? Mountainous forests or high plains?
    Suggested by   @andersun
  2. Currently still in Western Montana, @andersun, so mountainous and pretty. 😊
  3. How are road conditions?
    Suggested by   @andersun
  4. Roads aren't too bad, @andersun.
Slushy and snowy on the shoulder, but lanes are fairly clear so far. We have to cross two mountain passes but aren't to either one yet, so they may be messier.
  5. So what is the compromise audio choice?
    Suggested by   @andersun
  6. We were listening to the Garth Channel on SiriusXM but she just changed it to Outlaw Country. I glared at her but am letting it go for now. She can have this little battle, I will win the war.
  7. What image do you wish you had on a rubber stamp?
    Suggested by   @andersun
  8. @andersun My signature, I guess. I feel like only important people have a stamp of their signature. 😁
  9. Where are we going?
    Suggested by   @andersun
  10. We are headed to my brother's house to spend a few days with my nephews, @andersun.
He lives 'off the grid' in Eastern Montana, near where Custer's Last Stand occurred.
  11. Are we there yet?
    Suggested by   @andersun
  12. No. 😭
We're only a little over an hour into the drive, cause we stopped at Target (of course). I would guess we have 5-6 more hours, depending on how inappropriately my chauffeur drives.
  13. If you were forced to pick up a hitchhiker and have him/her with you for the rest of the trip, who would you stop for: a vampire, a ventriloquist or a viral video star?
    Suggested by   @andersun
  14. I say Viral Video Star but Mom says Vampire, @andersun.
Mom says: He would sleep all day, so we wouldn't even have to talk to him. But she lies because she would talk his ear off. He'd be wishing for a wooden stake. I say Viral Video Star cause #crazycammie is totally meant to be internet famous. He could launch her 'career.'
  15. What do we have along for snacks?
    Suggested by   @andersun
  16. No snacks so far...at least in the front seat. Just tea for her and coffee and water for me. But we have a ton of leftover Christmas goodies in the back.
This is a surprise because Mom loves to snack. I get really carsick and am currently not feeing great, so we plan to stop in the next town (20 more miles) and she wants to grab some of the treats from the back and get some goodies at the store.
  17. What is the Montana state tree? Flower? Mammal? Ballad?
    Suggested by   @andersun
  18. Going to have to Google this, @andersun. Just cause I lived in Montana for 22 of my 32 years doesn't mean I know anything about it.
Mom chimed in and says bird is Western Meadowlark and flower is Bitterroot (both true). Tree is pine tree (Google says Western Yellow Pine, Mom responds: it's really the Bull Pine!), don't know mammal or song. Google says Grizzly Bear is mammal. We should have known that one! It was my college's mascot and one of the animals we're famous for. And apparently Montana Melody is our song, though Mom says it should be Prop Me Up Beside The Jukebox. She also wants the state animal to be a platypus.
  19. Going West to East, @mnickwrites.
My parents live in a small town called Superior, 45 minutes from the Idaho border. My brother lives in the middle of nowhere, on the Crow Reservation near a tiny-doesn't-even-describe it town called St. Xavier. It's almost all along I-90 (just the last 25 miles are not) so it's an easy drive, just long. About 470 miles.
  20. What did you get for Christmas?
    Suggested by   @lexie_elyse
  21. Good question, @lexie_elyse!
Clothes and two lovely scarves, Benefit makeup (my fave), brown boots, Pampered Chef goodies, bath stuff, some hair and face products I like, Christmas socks and underwear (this is a constant every year), the same Kate Spade planner I had in 2015 & 2016 (I picked that one out myself), a notebook for lists of things about me being awesome (Mom gets me), fluffy robe, an ornament, an apron, lots of other little stuff (Mom likes to shop for me), a travel makeup mirror and money.
  22. Aside from you, name three famous Montanans?
    Suggested by   @andersun
  23. Glad you recognize that I am one, @andersun.
Was actually just talking to my mom and her bestie about this the other day. Others include: Evil Knievel (do people know him? I think he was famous), Phil Jackson and both Dana Carvey & Michelle Williams were born here but moved to Cali while kids. Some other personal faves: Jeannette Rankin and the Unabomber. 😉 Mom also wants me to include Brock Osweiler, even though he ditched her Broncos for the Texans. Oh and a kid from my hometown is married to a Real Housewife of Atlanta. 😂
  24. Do you usually prefer driving or being a passenger?
    Suggested by   @kate81
  25. I don't like driving with other people in the car and the car also makes me super sleepy normally, @kate81, so I definitely prefer to be a passenger.
However, I do get super carsick. So I have to sit in the front seat. And often times I will drive if I start to feel sick cause it's rare for me to get carsick while driving (though it has happened a handful of times). I'm currently feeling super yucky (listing is probably not helping my carsickness but whatevs) but not driving today because Mom wants to get us over the two Mountain passes first since I'm out of practice driving in the snow.
  26. Salty or Sweet?
    Suggested by   @kate81
  27. Sweet, always! @kate81
    Just like me. 😁
  28. That river photo above is 💯💰🏆. Which river is it?
    Suggested by   @andersun
  29. It is the Clark Fork river, @andersun.
That was from the highway today, but it actually goes right through our little town too. It's lovely. I haven't taken a picture from the town bridge this trip, but here's one from a couple summers ago. 😍
  30. Destination's 'off-the-grid'ness: Wind or Solar?
    Suggested by   @andersun
  31. Currently all solar, but he plans to add windmills too next year, @andersun.
Don't know how my sister-in-law does it with three little boys and lots of animals, especially in the winter. They're troopers!
  32. Halpert or Lyman?
    Suggested by   @andersun
  33. HOW DARE YOU, @andersun!!!
Okay. I can do this. Lyman! I love Jim Halpert, but I don't want to be him. I both love and would love to be Josh Lyman, so he gets the W.
  34. What do residents of Montana call themselves?
    Montanans? Montanians? Joes?
    Suggested by   @BWN_7
  35. Montanans, @BWN_7.
But legit laughed out loud at Joes. Might need to suggest that at the next state meeting. 😉
  36. Who else do you know who has graduated from law school but is not a lawyer?
I can name three: Python John Cleese, QB Steve Young and baseball manager Tony LaRussa. And you: four!
    Suggested by   @andersun
  37. Another great question, @andersun!
I actually know a ton of them...most work in academia or politics. I specialized in sports law and many of my classmates also work in professional or college athletics, though I'm the only one of us who didn't get licensed in Wisconsin (it's the only state where you can get licensed without taking the bar)...looking back I should have, even though I never planned to practice. Also: Paul Tagliabue and David Stern, Emily Giffin and John Grisham, Gandhi and Jerry Springer. Good company? 😂
  38. What car games did you like on road trips in your youth?
    Suggested by   @Boogie
  39. @Boogie Sonny and I used to make this trip a lot after our parents split and Mom moved to Western Montana.
The only games I remember ever playing were I Spy and the alphabet sign game.
  40. Update: I took Dramamine and went to sleep for a few hours. Woke up when we got to town. Now just 20 miles left until we're to my brother's house.
We're not in Western Montana anymore...clearly! This side of the state is FLAT.
