Eight Years Ago Today I Made an Important Decision

  1. According to Facebook, I committed to my college 8 years ago today.
  2. I didn't love college. I did a lot of things wrong, like date someone long distance for the entire time. I put too much pressure on myself and didn't have enough fun.
  3. But 8 years ago today, I set the course for the rest of my life, and that feels pretty neat.
  4. I met my best friend/roommate/soulmate, who drives me crazy but is one of my favorite people on the planet.
  5. I made a lot of stuff.
  6. I started to learn how to write (or rather, what *isn't* good writing) and was lucky enough to get to work with a great group of people for two years.
    Shoutout to @Caitlin 😘
  7. I met a wonderful group of ladies who helped me make my voice heard and helped support women in the industry and in life.
  8. I tried a lot of cupcakes. So. Many. Cupcakes.
  9. I got to go to LA and have Ed O'Neill cut off a man who spoke over me to let me finish talking.
  10. I experienced -30 degree windchill and constant snow.
  11. I lived on my own for the first time, and learned how to cook from my roommates.
  12. I got hired for my first job in TV by an alum, and worked at that company for the next three years.
  13. That's not to say that I wouldn't necessarily be doing what I'm doing now if I'd made a different choice, but even with the crippling student debt I'll be paying off for the next 8-10 years, I'm still happy I made the one I did.
