#OscarsSoWhite will soon start trending again. The lack of diversity at the Awards is more an issue of a flawed movie making system than it is of the Oscars voting process but just to confirm, or rebuke, this theory, let’s see if we can come up with some non-white movies/actors/directors/writers that the Academy should have nominated for an Oscar.
  1. Director: Ryan Coogler (Creed)
  2. Actor: Michael B. Jordan (Creed)
  3. Actor: Idris Elba (Beasts Of No Nation)
  4. Director: Cary Fukunaga (Beasts Of No Nation)
  5. Actor: Will Smith (Concussion)
Just so we are playing by the same rules those Oscar voters are supposed to follow, since I didn’t see this movie I shouldn’t nominate it regardless of how deserving I THINK it might be. So scratch this one off, unless one of you did see it.
  6. Movie: Straight Outta Compton
  7. Director: F. Gary Gray (Straight Outta Compton)
  8. Actor: Benicio Del Toro (Sicario)
I didn’t see this one either so I can’t vote for it. I hope some else saw it because it got good reviews.
  9. Actor: Samuel L. Jackson (The Hateful Eight)
  10. Am I missing any other viable candidates? Are there other movies you've seen that should have been nominated and were likely to have been seen by Oscar voters?
  11. Who would you remove from the actual nominees in order to make room for some of these choices?
