I read more backlist than new books so most of these are older, but I read them this year. Also I didn't read that many books I'd describe as popular and hyped.
  1. The Martian by Andy Weir - totally awesome when I read it and even more awesome when I listened to the audio eight months later
  2. Brown Girl Dreaming by Jacqueline Woodson - I listened to the audio because I believe poetry should be heard. I was not sorry to have made that choice.
  3. Coralline by Neil Gaiman - I don't know why it took me so long but again, I'm glad I opted for audio.
  4. The Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Juster - I fixed a major lapse in my literary upbringing when I read this.
  5. Hopefully something else I will read before the end of the year.
