1. Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver
Even if she weren't one of my favorite authors, this book is so lovely it will make you beg for a plot of land or at least a couple large pots so you can get your hands in the dirt.
  2. Teaming with Microbes by Jeff Lowenfels
It all starts with soil. Everything. You, me, that home grown tomato you are pining for. The more you understand about the world below our feet, the better gardener you will be. Scratch that. The better human being you will be...and the less likely you are to spray glyphosates (I.e. Round Up) and screw up everything for all of us. FU Monsanto.
