Director Guillermo del Toro has been pretty insistent that people don’t call his new film Crimson Peak a horror movie simply because it has ghosts. But just because his latest creation isn’t a scary movie that doesn’t mean he can’t pick a good scary movie.
  1. The Haunting
  2. The Innocents
  3. Alien
  4. Jaws
  5. Texas Chainsaw Massacre
  6. Almost made the list: The Exorcist
“I would say The Exorcist, but The Exorcist when I was a kid didn’t do anything for me,” del Toro says. “But then I became a parent and it became incredibly scary. So, films change with your age, but those five scared me at the time.”
  7. His thoughts on horror
"The truth in our world, and what we need to understand is, the horror is all too human. You have to fear the living more than the dead."
