PHONE CALLS I REMEMBER VIVIDLY IN CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER

  1. 1994
My dad called my grandparent's house and asked to speak to me. He told me I had a baby sister and that I was to tell all the family that had gathered at Nanny & Poppy's that her name was Jenny. I was 4 and I had to stand on a chair to reach the phone.
  2. 1999
I was at a sleepover with a bunch of girls and they wanted to make prank calls on my cousin. I still feel guilty for giving them his number. So much for family loyalty.

We called my aunt to wish her a happy first day in Calgary. Unfortunately for her, we forgot about the time difference and our call woke her & her new roommates up at 5am.

Credit card company phoned to ask if it was really me that spent $400 on a Neiman Marcus order. It was me. I bought 1 lipstick, 1 lipgloss, 1 blush and 1 eyeshadow palette. All Tom Ford and all worth it.
  5. 2011
I was working at a greenhouse and a customer called during a v busy time to ask if she could plant potted dahlias outside. For some reason I got a bad case of the giggles and was crying-laughing on the phone in front of a bunch of people waiting to go through the check out. It was a hilarious nightmare.

I BOMBED a phone interview for a PR program because I got nervous and said something about Mitt Romney being dumb or something. The content of the call is blurry, the 'why tf did I say that' is vivid.

My nanny called to tell me my uncle was in the hospital because something was wrong with his heart. I was living in a different province and it was the first time I felt very far away from home.
  8. 2013
A wonderful friend called to talk me through the decision of staying in Ottawa or moving back home. Words can not describe how grateful I was for her patience and kindness.

Algonquin College called to do an alumni survey and it turned into another phone call giggle fit. The whole conversation was a disaster, but the best part was when she kept asking me to repeat my current city and after the fifth time I said, "YA KNOW, THE BIRTHPLACE OF CANADA."

The time I fell in love with the Eastlink Guy bc he kept saying "cool."
