I'M DYING FROM DOING TOO MANY DAMN REPORT CARDS AND I STILL HAVE TWO LEFT, AMA

  1. P.S. I voted today and went to the dentist for the first time in two years.
    Cavity free baby!!!
  2. How much time does each report card take?
    Suggested by   @jaidub
  3. @jaidub Up to 30 minutes but only because I am also planning for conferences tomorrow as well. Oh, and my co-teacher had surgery so I'm doing her sections too!
    Hence the dying.
  4. What were your other name choices for Ellie?
    Suggested by   @lexie_elyse
  5. @lexie_elyse We did not have any other name options! We picked out Eleanor Blue years and years ago and never looked back. We have no clue what our next girl will be if we were to have one.
Our boy names are Geronimo K and Elliot Blaise but they both seem a bit outlandish now that real actual children are involved. : )
  6. Favorite color?
    Suggested by   @lexie_elyse
  7. @lexie_elyse GREEEEEENNNN
    But blue is also lovely.
  8. What was your favorite thing to grade thus far?
    Suggested by   @supabg
  9. @supabg The first quarter review that I created to see what my kids remembered of all the science and visual studies topics we've covered so far this year. I'm a nerd and love making and taking tests and I love to see what really sticks in my kids' brains.
  10. What grade/subject do you teach?
    Suggested by   @finesse
  11. @finesse Third Grade! I was just teaching science and social studies but my co-teacher had to have surgery so now I teach math and language arts as well! I love it all but sci/ss are my faves!
  12. If you weren't a teacher, what would you like to be doing?
    Suggested by   @lexie_elyse
  13. @lexie_elyse Damn good question. I always knew I wanted to teach. But in my heart of hearts I'd love to make giant art installations.
  14. Did you save the hardest to do until the end?
    Suggested by   @jaidub
  15. @jaidub Nope! I went in the order of my conferences. Which strangely enough ended up being almost alphabetically.
  16. What's your favorite hobby/pastime?
    Suggested by   @lexie_elyse
  17. @lexie_elyse Reading, listing, being with people I love, party planning, hiking and watching movies.
  18. Do they have to be done by tomorrow?
    Suggested by   @jaidub
  19. @jaidub They were due Friday!! HAHAHAAAHHHHH 😬🙃😩
    So... yes.
  20. Can you do something else (music, TV, movie) while you grade or do you have to only grade?
And if you say you are watching a HP movie then you are a caricature of yourself ;)
    Suggested by   @mbmurray23
  21. @mbmurray23 Damn you know me. I already watched HP 7.2 and now I'm watching Hunger Games.
I almost cried a few times during HP (Damn you, Gary Oldman!!!) and I should not have put in Hunger Games because it's been too long since I've watched it so I was a little distracted.
  22. What are your thoughts on the willingness of public school systems to learn more about children and mental health? Do you think it would be helpful for teachers and admins to have more training on how things like trauma, anxiety, depression affect kids?
    Suggested by   @sarahsolene
  23. @sarahsolene A million times yes!! Luckily I work at a private school that really focuses on the whole child and individual learning/social/emotional needs of students. We definitely are encouraged to look deeper into student issues and help the parents get in touch with the right people and resources.
  24. Okay put the phone down and finish. Just two left!
    Suggested by   @jaidub
  25. @jaidub Done! Night!!
  26. What did Ellie dress up as for Halloween?
    Suggested by   @lexie_elyse
  27. Snow White! @lexie_elyse
  28. Nice of you to help with your co-teacher's report cards. I spent 6 hours grading and entering grades & comments for report cards today too! Hey, keep on keeping on! The good news is, the kids should be reeeeaall mellow tomorrow! 😀👍🏼
    Suggested by   @kate81
  29. @kate81 I knew you'd feel my pain.
  30. A) Please never delete a list. Ever. And B) Were you a good student as a kid?
    Suggested by   @pili_ervin
  31. @pili_ervin I was a very good kid who never did her homework. : )
  32. Is it the entire report card? Or just grades for your subject that you're adding to it? I forget how it works in elementary..
    Suggested by   @veshecco
  33. @veshecco Just my parts but that is the main chunk of it since I teach all four core subjects!
  34. Also do you tweet??
    Suggested by   @veshecco
  35. @veshecco I used to tweet but was no good at it. Knowing that so many listers are active on Twitter temps me to jump back in but if anything I need to decrease my phone time, not increase my reasons to be on it.
  36. Is your grading enhanced by an adult beverage or two?
This was recommended to me a couple weeks ago but didn't actually do it
    Suggested by   @supercommonname
  37. @supercommonname I believe it was me who suggested that to you a few weeks ago! For me, sometimes a glass of wine is all I need to power me through a small chuck of grading! But tonight I had more than usual and was afraid the wine would make me sleepy since I was already tired.
  38. Which kind of kid is the hardest to grade: the good students, the bad students, or the mediocre students?
    Suggested by   @mbmurray23
  39. @mbmurray23 The good kids for sure! I know these parents want me to have a plan for their child to be better but honestly sometimes they're already so great that I feel like I'm grasping at straws or nit picking just to have something to say for the areas of improvement.
  40. Are these report cards using a plus/minus and Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory system or a letter grade system? What are we talkin here?
    Suggested by   @sarahmccoy
  41. @sarahmccoy I already loaded grades into the grade book so that shoots over the As, Bs and Cs into the report card but then I have to plug in checks, Check pluses or Check minuses into the skill sets. For example: under math it says "computes with accuracy" "problem solves" "exhibits effort" etc.
