Sometimes I'm shocked by what eight year olds don't know. Here are some things I've had to teach my students that don't appear in any curriculum.
  1. How to open and close an umbrella
  2. When you play a game, take turns going clockwise
  3. How to double knot shoe laces
    A severely underused skill
  4. The importance of looking both ways when crossing a street
  5. A proper handshake
  6. Close a door if you open it and push in your chair when you vacate it
  7. Sometimes it's worth it to save a bug and let it free outside but always kill wasps
  8. Perfection is rarely expected and crappy work is never tolerated
  9. That even if you hurt someone by accident you still should say you're sorry
