I love movies. I love baseball. And I dislike most movies about baseball. Go figure. But these ten? My favorites:
  1. 10.
    Major League
    'Just a bit outside.'
  2. 9.
    Fever Pitch
(Even though it features Red Sox Nation. Mitigating factor: I'm a sucker for Drew Barrymore rom-coms.)
  3. 8.
Jackie Robinson's story. (Even though it features the hated Dodgers. Mitigating factor: They are Brooklyn — not LA — Dodgers. Plus: My wife's family is distantly related to Branch Rickey!)
  4. 7.
    The book was great.
  5. 6.
    Eight Men Out
    The Black Sox scandal.
  6. 5.
    A League of their Own
    There's no crying in baseball!
  7. 4.
    Field of Dreams
If you build it... I like this a lot but I really love Shoeless Joe, the book on which it's based. A must read for baseball and/or Salinger fans.
  8. 3.
    The Natural
Wonderboy! (I sense a trend: the movie is well done and I like this book better too!)
  9. 2.
A great film about the challenges of a Dominican kid trying to make it in American baseball.
  10. 1.
    Bill Durham
A perfectly great movie. So quotable. Great actors. A great story. And the baseball feels authentic. Bonus: Susan Sarandon.
