1. You can now watch the legendary, never-released Jerry Lewis Holocaust "comedy," The Day the Clown Cried, online. (Kind of.)
  2. It's a 30-minute assemblage of leaked footage from the movie; script excerpts; and new footage of actors performing scenes from the screenplay.
  3. Most of the stuff is from a German documentary about the film, so unfortunately, it's dubbed in German. But it's more than we've ever seen of the movie, and the footage is kind of mind-melting.
  4. If you've never heard of "Clown" - it's a movie that Jerry Lewis shot in 1972, and is a legendary disaster, careening tastelessly between Holocaust drama and typical Lewis slapstick.
  5. The few people (producers, investors, etc.) who saw Jerry's first cut of the movie were so appalled that Jerry locked the film away and wouldn't talk about it for years.
  6. One of the few people who Jerry has screened it for is Harry Shearer (Mr. Burns on the Simpsons). He stated, "This movie is so drastically wrong, its pathos and its comedy are so wildly misplaced, that you could not, in your fantasy of what it might be like, improve on what it really is. 'Oh My God!' - that's all you can say."
  7. Here's the link - and if you're the sort of total weirdo nerd who's excited about this (raises hand!), you'd better hurry. 'Cause you know Jerry is going to have this taken down as soon as he finds out.
  8. Here are two links to recent interviews with Jerry about "Clown" that are pretty awesome.
  9. To the four people on this app who are excited about this: You're welcome.
(And let's be honest, one or two of you knew about it already, because you have a "Day Clown Cried" Google Alert.)
  10. To everyone else: I would apologize, but it's kind of your fault for reading this far. ❤️❤️❤️
