1. I always notice this spot in Delhi.
  2. There's a lot of poverty, as well as a lot of wealth in the city.
  3. This particular spot is crazy because both that wealth and poverty are right next to each other.
  4. These slums
  5. Where people are hanging laundry on barbed wire over the wall and living in cobbled together shacks...
  6. Are right next to...
  7. This huge 3 section mall and complex
  8. That includes super fancy restaurants and luxury brand stores.
  9. Like Dior, Burberry, Gucci, Louis Vuitton(sp?), Cartier, Versace stores and so many more
  10. And every time I drive by I'm struck by this extreme display of wealth jammed up against these extremely impoverished slums.
  11. And when I go in the mall I wonder how people can have large shopping bags from multiple luxury stores (clearly spending a ton), eat expensive meals, get in their luxury cars, and drive past those slums.
  12. But that is the reality of living where there is so much poverty and has been for so long.
  13. You get used to it.
  14. You forget it's there.
  15. You drive your Mercedes and wear your Prada and eat your 5 star food,
  16. And the rest fades into the background.
  17. And maybe that's part of the problem in India.
  18. There's so much poverty that people have trouble seeing it anymore.
  19. And they certainly don't know how to fix it.
