THANKSGIVING IN INDIA

  1. This was my husband and his family's first Thanksgiving
  2. I made pumpkin pie completely from scratch
Super proud that I made pumpkin purée, evaporated milk, and even ground the cinnamon and cloves.
  3. Sweet potato casserole with marshmallows
Skinned, boiled, and mashed the sweet potatoes. They aren't orange in India, but they taste the same.
  4. It turned out pretty well
My mother in law at loads
  5. Stuffing from scratch
My husband's ain't owns a bakery and supplied fresh baked French bread for my stuffing.
  6. Cream corn
Used frozen corn - we actually get that here and fresh cream and homemade butter.
  7. I am thankful for homemade ingredients
We have our own cows here. That means I bake with fresh milk, fresh cream, and homemade butter. We also have a vegetable garden, so most of my veggies are home grown.
  8. In India...
You don't get canned stuff. We grind the cinnamon and cloves and other things ourselves. Sugar comes in large grains so we grind it to a finer consistency for baking. Basically, there's a lot more doing things from scratch.
  9. Mashed potatoes and gravy
My husband made this from my instructions. He was very proud.
  10. I'm thankful for my husband
I had a mini breakdown today. I was cooking all by myself and started getting very sad about it. Ended up in tears calling him to say thanksgiving shouldn't be lonely. So my husband came back and helped me cook. He even let me take a short cat nap.
  11. I'm thankful for my family
I called my older sister and my mom when I started feeling a little lonely while cooking.
  12. French bread instead of rolls
I was tired of baking and skipped the rolls. We got an extra French bread I didn't need for the stuffing, so we ate that instead.
  13. Deviled eggs
    My fave
  14. Baked macaroni and cheese
I used cheese powder, plain cheese, cream, milk, and butter. It turned out really delicious.
  15. We had quiche from the bakery
    It was excellent!
  16. And we set the table and dined
  17. I'm thankful for my new family
My husband's family has been so supportive of me. They got everything I needed for Thanksgiving dinner, and we're excited to try everything. They've been a blessing in my life.
  18. I'm thankful for List App
This was also the first really big all vegetarian meal I've ever made. When I listed to ask people for advice, lots of people jumped in to offer suggestions on what to make. I didn't make everything suggested, and I was limited a bit by available ingredients, but thank you fellow listers for the help!
  19. And that was our first Indian Thanksgiving!
They loved stuffing, gravy, deviled eggs, and sweet potato casserole the most. The pumpkin pie was also a hit! Thank God for that!
