1. One time I was with a group of friends. All of us were girls except for one. We were talking about which part of our campus we found the scariest to walk at night. The one guy was amazed at how much we had thought about this. He had never felt threatened walking any of these places at night.
  2. I'm not saying men never feel threatened, but I think women are told so many rape statistics and preventative measures (like walk in groups, have 911 pre dialed or have some one on the phone but don't let it distract you) that they are naturally more aware and afraid when walking at night.
  3. Tonight I had to walk down a street I was less familiar with and noticed myself thinking some of these things:
  4. Am I walking too slow?
  5. Am I walking too fast?
  6. Do I look nervous?
  7. Which side of the street is lit better
  8. Is that guy following me or just heading in the same direction?
  9. Should I go in to that store so he won't be walking with me anymore?
  10. Should I take my keys out incase I need them as a defense weapon?
  11. What if I drop them?
  12. Should I call my mom?
  13. It's not that late, right?
  14. A guy on a bike wouldn't attack me.
I don't really know the reason I thought this but I did.
  15. There is another women walking near me I feel safer.
  16. Good thing I wore a thousand rings with lots of sharp jems on em today...

  29. Check in the back of the car always before getting in. Even still, always feel nervous when you look in the rear view mirror the first time. Goddamn horror movies and real life.

  30. Don't make eye contact but also don't look scared or nervous but also don't look too confidant because what if you get called out for looking bitchy. Don't look meek but don't look sexy.
    Walking by dudes is exhausting.

  31. I have terrible posture, but when I'm walking alone, I make sure I am all of my six foot tall self.
I'm not sure that this would make me intimidating to a perpetrator, but my whole stance changes.

  32. Okay. If he comes at you, try and use the heel of your hand to thrust upwards and break his nose. That will make it easier to escape.
