Non-kid Movies to Watch With Your Kids

Caveat: I have a 9yo and 11yo, so I might be more flexible/liberal than parents of younger children. I am generally fine with language but try to bypass graphic sex (for obvious reasons: see Jerry Maguire below). Anyway, we watch a lot of movies...here are some good ones, often old favorites, that we have all loved. Please add your own!
  1. Tootsie
Just watched this today. Omg, as good as I remember. 11yo hooooowled when he ripped off his wig.
  2. About a Boy
They both really loved this - I mean, it's one of my favorites, but I think they really related to the kid-angle.
  3. Ferris Bueller
My 9yo's favorite movie and has been since she was 6. 🙄
  4. Jerry Maguire
One of their favorites, though both my husband and I forgot about the sex scene at the beginning with Kelly Preston, and then simultaneously jumped up, scrambled around screaming, unable to find the correct remote until the scene was just about over. My 11yo got a lot of mileage out of it. #goodparenting
  5. The Rookie
  6. The Natural
  7. Field of Dreams
    (My 9yo loves baseball.)
  8. The Blind Side
  9. Fame
  10. Some Kind of Wonderful
  11. Friday Night Lights
We have done the series too.
  12. Mission Impossible (all of them)
  13. The Family Man
  14. Top Gun
  15. A League of Their Own
  16. Coming to America
  17. Honeymoon in Vegas
  18. Footloose
  19. The Goonies
  20. City Slickers
Watched this after we got home from a dude ranch. 🌵🐴
  21. Titanic
(Though the 9yo was quite annoyed bc "Jack totally could have fit on that board with her" and 11yo concurred that "it was only for the story")
  22. Moneyball
For the 11yo bc he is destined to be a sports agent or the like
  23. The Matrix
    Only for the 11yo
  24. Speed
    Ditto and he looved it
  25. Independence Day
  26. Edward Scissorhands
  27. Movies we haven't yet done but I plan to (at least once I revisit to ensure they're appropriate): Dirty Dancing, Dead Poet's Society, School Ties, 16 Candles/the entire John Hughes oeuvre, Stand By Me
  28. More obvious ones that you may have seen but in case not: ET, Big, Bad News Bears, 13 Going on 30, Indiana Jones, Ghostbusters, Men in Black, The Parent Trap, Liar Liar, Mrs Doubtfire, Back to the Future, the Princess Bride, Uncle Buck, Airplane
  29. Okay, I know there are more I'm forgetting but that's a good start if you need an idea for movie night!
  30. Movie musicals!
The Music Man, West Side Story (my 8 year old's current obsession), Fiddler on the Roof, My Fair Lady, Funny Girl.

  32. The Island
Totally underrated movie that they'll like if they dug the Matrix

  33. For Love Of The Game
Costner is a pitcher and has Kelly Preston (but not any Jerry Maguire scenes IIRC) in it...

  34. The Princess Bride
I can't wait to share this with my daughter.

  35. Elf
Does this count? Kind of kid-focused I admit but a real TREASURE of a non-barfy movie that rewards repeat views.

  36. My kids loved Pirates of Penzance (with Kevin Kline) and Singing In The Rain.

  37. Chariots of Fire
Can't wait to watch movies with my kids

  38. Groundhog Day
A many times repeat. One scene where "bad Phil" uses his knowledge to sleep with a woman, so she's straddling him as he kisses her. Other than that funny and sweet.

  39. The Martian
One swear word (F#%^), but used appropriately.
