Something I Can't Face

  1. A few years ago, I announced that I wanted to start collecting beer bottle caps for a project I saw on Pinterest.
  2. I have since lost interest in said project as I am now a few years older and my aesthetic and availability to complete craft projects has changed quite a bit.
  3. But my three roommates never stopped collecting bottle caps for me.
  4. They walk around at parties with solo cups specifically for collecting bottle caps.
  5. They get so excited when we try a new beer and the bottle cap is unique and/or colorful.
  6. I haven't had the heart to tell them that I no longer wish to collect bottle caps and that I really have no plans for the hundreds we have already collected.
  7. So yesterday was Cinco de Mayo and they saw me throw a bottle cap in the garbage.
  8. They panicked.
  9. I claimed it was an accident.
  10. I dug it out of the garbage and put it into the designated bottle cap bag.
  11. They passed the bag around the room marveling at how many bottle caps they've managed to collect in the past five years while I broke the fourth wall and flashed a guilt-ridden face to the imaginary camera.
  12. It's too late.
  13. I've allowed this continue for way too long.
  14. I can't take this away from them now.
  15. It has become a symbol of teamwork and all the good times we've shared together.
  16. So does anyone have any ideas for what to do with old beer bottle caps?
  17. Asking for a friend.
  18. Three of them, actually.
