Favourite Albums 2013

  1. 1.
Acid Rap - Chance The Rapper
Chance is just very fun to listen to. I love his voice so much and he raps with dynamic tones through his bars similar to a Danny Brown or Nicki Minaj.
  2. 2.
    Sunbather - Deafheaven
The black metal vocals are drowned out and distorted to sound more like an additional guitar than a driving melody. Extremely well composed and well layered guitars, vocals and drums make this poignant symphony of fuzz strangely relaxing.
  3. 3.
    Yeezus - Kanye West
This is the embodiment of Kanye's famous Twitter rants put into music form. The man is essentially yelling over loud noises the entire album. Very punchy beats with, in my opinion, Kanye's most creative production.
  4. 4.
    Raasük - Mashrou3 Leila
A departure from there more raw sound with the introduction of a more pop feel. The mixture of violin with these indie-pop background grooves work surprisingly well. To tie everything together Hammed slays the fuck out of any word that comes out of his mouth.
  5. 5.
    Doris - Earl Sweatshirt
Slow droning angsty beats paired with Earl's slow deep angsty voice and lyricism. An introspective look at the troubles of shooting into fame and how it affects relationships with others and oneself.p
  6. 6.
Because The Internet - Childish Gambino
Humour, R&B, rap, and interesting production that Donald Glover has credits on for every track.
  7. 7.
Trouble Will Find Me - The National
Other than Humiliation every song is my favourite song on this album. Berninger's deep voice and poetic lyricism will make sure you regret every life decision you've ever made.
  8. 8.
    Old - Danny Brown
The album is split into two halves. One half glorifying drugs and the other talking about the dark world that comes along with it. Danny Brown is a goofy man with a goofy voice but won't back down from broaching serious topics among his drug induced bangers.
  9. 9.
Run The Jewels - Run The Jewels
Aggressive beats and verses from the hip-hop duo make me so happy to be in a world where El-p and Killer Mike crossed paths. "My name is Chest Rockwell. And I love making love. To your booty."
  10. 10.
Courtney Barnett - A Sea Of Split Peas
Courtney's music is the embodiment of dry teenage apathy and the conscious self-loathing/narcissism found in millennials like me.
