My 10 Favorite Video Games of All Time

We were a Sega family.
  1. 1.
    Alex Kidd in Miracle World
The theme song. The colors. The in-retrospect very unusual reliance on rock-scissors-paper to resolve disputes with level bosses. And just a great, happy, interesting game. I love this game more than all others combined. (Sega Master System)
  2. 2.
    Ladybug
My favorite arcade game. Very derivative of Pac-Man, but with the ability to use geometry to your advantage in closing doors on enemies after you pass through them. I've never found it since I played it in the late 80s at the Lighthouse Inn in Chatham, MA. (Arcade)
  3. 3.
    Great Baseball
I loved the names of these players. A slow game, like baseball itself. (Sega Master System)
  4. 4.
    Pac-Mania
Or "Bouncing Pac-Man," as @jesseno and I called it when we discovered it an arcade. It later came to Sega Genesis, but it wasn't the same. (Arcade)
  5. 5.
    Toejam and Earl
The jazziest, funkiest Sega Genesis game. It had a Herbie Hancock knockoff soundtrack and a lot of playful touches. Actually, only playful touches. We all loved it in my family. (Sega Genesis)
  6. 6.
    NBA Jam
One of the last games I loved. Loved the secret codes. Really fun. Also really captured the aesthetic of late 90s NBA - slick, colorful, like basketball cards come to life. (Sega Genesis version)
  7. 7.
    Super Mario Bros. 2
I know. It's the one no one liked. I loved it. I played it at any friend's house I could. Always played as the Princess. I don't know what else to say here. (Nintendo Entertainment System)
  8. 8.
    Super Mario Bros.
Magic. I'm not immune. (Nintendo Entertainment System)
  9. 9.
    Miracle Warriors
The only time I've been immersed in a role playing game. The music, the mythology. Out of character for me but I was obsessed with it for a season or two. (Sega Master System)
  10. 10.
    Mario Kart
    Only socially. (Super Nintendo)
