1. Do not ever, ever, ever, EVER use a microwave to boil the water.
Do not even tell me you used to do this or have considered doing it. It will upset me too much.
  2. Go out and buy an electric kettle.
  3. Put the kettle on.
Ie, hit the on switch on the electric kettle.
  4. When the kettle switches itself off - and NOT before - pour a little hot water into the teapot.
  5. Swirl it around a bit to warm it up so the tea won't go cold immediately.
  6. Dress your teapot in a tea cosy so that the tea stays warm while it's brewing.
  7. Take a spoonful of loose leaf tea.
For example Twinings Earl Grey or Twinings English breakfast.
  8. Put it in the teapot.
  9. Pour the boiling water into the teapot.
  10. Wait a while for the tea to brew.
  11. Put a tiny bit of milk in the bottom of each cup.
This is controversial. Some people are TIFs (tea in first) and some are MIFs, a tradition that persists from the days when a China cup would crack if you poured near-boiling water into it. But it's my list so I get to decide.
  12. Pour the tea through a tea strainer.
  13. Enjoy your delicious cup of 🇬🇧 tea!
