The enormity of the Grand Canyon. The old ladies jail and the House of Joy in Jerome.
  2. Alaska
Seeing a black bear (and then many...and then grizzlies), moose, the Northern Lights, catching and cleaning dungeoness crabs, kayaking, Denali. It's one of the best trips I've ever taken.

I've visited a lot, but San Diego is my favorite city I've been to so far. Love the Old Globe, Balboa Park, and La Jolla Cove.
  4. Connecticut
A beach on Long Island Sound that we went to when I was a kid. I don't remember the name. I do remember my toes being pinched by crabs underwater.

Walking the beach in St. Augustine with a childhood friend. The Tiffany museum in Orlando.
  7. Georgia
Best fried chicken I've ever had was in Sylvania, GA.
  8. Hawaii
Snorkeling with sea turtles, watching lava burble and spurt out of the earth. Hawaii was almost as amazing as Alaska. (And oddly similar in many ways.)
  9. Idaho
Driven thru a corner of it going to the Grand Tetons.
  10. Indiana
Wolf Park. The "HELL IS REAL" sign on 65 and thinking, "Yep, and I'm in it right now."

  12. Kansas
Sitting in a sports bar watching Michigan beat Ohio State thereby sending the Northwestern Wildcats to the Rosebowl.

  14. Maine
    Acadia, cousins, kayaking Moosehead Lake.
  15. Maryland
childhood Thanksgivings with cousins. Great times.
  16. Massachusetts
Boston is ok, but was really impressed by the South Shore and all the random food: lobster rolls, lime rickys, an ice cream flavor that I can't remember the name of, but distinctly remember the taste....
  17. Michigan
Rubbing a black bear cub's tummy at Oswald's Bear Ranch.

    Worst pizza I've ever had.

The animal rescue/environmental center in Red Lodge.
  21. New Hampshire
Summer at a vacation rental on a lake next door to my aunt and uncle. Loved it. Caught rainbow trout.

Driving home on 9W with friends from a Billy Joel concert, looking for signs, finding a skunk with a yogurt cup stuck on its head instead.
  23. New York
  24. Ohio
Mostly spent time in Cincy. Very aggressive homeless population and people smoke like chimneys.

  27. Rhode Island
Block Island, eating my first lobster
  28. South Carolina
Went swimming off of Edisto Island when I was 5 months pregnant. Realized that the density of amniotic fluid and sea water is pretty much identical. Belly lost it's taught shape in the water because of this. So cool.
  29. Utah
Snowbasin, taking my husband's rental car while he was in a conference and driving to Wyoming... just 'cause.
  30. Vermont
First vacation away from our child (possibly second — having children makes everything blurry). Hot air balloons and maple syrup farm.
  31. Virginia
8th grade class trip to the capitol, horrible hotel & hotel food. Arlington National Cemetery.
  32. Washington
Visiting Mt. St. Helens, Hurricane Ridge, kayaking the San Juans Islands. Beautiful, geologically diverse state. Mt. Rainier has a very intense "I will fuck you up" vibe.
  33. Wisconsin
Camping in Door County. A seemingly straight dude (he was there with girlfriend) kissing my friend (another straight dude) forcefully on the mouth. I straight-up fell out of my chair, I was laughing so hard.
  34. Wyoming
Grand Tetons and Yellowstone. Moose, bison, wolves, bears.
