THINGS I LEARNED DURING DINNER WITH 3 SEPTUAGENARIANS

What I learned from minding my elders today.
  1. Cars used to not have blinkers or turn signals
I feel like I should have known this? Apparently people would signal if they were turning by sticking their arms out of the window and doing bike turn signals.
  2. There used to be things called "Trousseau Teas"
These were parties were girls would ceremoniously open their trousseaus, or "hope chests", a few days before they got married.
  3. It used to be possible that there were some Americans so rural they could reach young adulthood and have never seen an escalator.
This is a true thing that one of them experienced.
  4. Swiss chard is actually pretty good 👍🏻
    Basically more grown-up spinach.
