I spent 10 years of my childhood in Ciudad Juarez, México. According to Time Magazine, this is one of the most dangerous cities in the world due to drug trafficking and the killing of women in the early 2000s.
  1. Neighborhood
My sister and I would go out and play with the neighborhood kids until 11 pm on Fridays and Saturdays. Nothing bad ever happened to us, we had a lot of fun and we now have amazing memories! It wasn't until a couple of years ago that my mom told my sister and me that the police had found dead bodies in the empty lot behind our backyard.
  2. Illegal acts
Although there were many illegal acts being committed around our neighborhood, my naiveness helped me live a fulfilled childhood filled with many friendships and love.
  3. Violence
In the early 2000s there was a lot of violence against women. I was a young girl growing up in that community. But I was blessed to have had the opportunity to move to another country at 10, which allowed me to grow up as a woman with a voice and opportunity.
