SONGS THAT SHAPED ME

  1. Any Beatles song.
My parents didn't believe in giving me an allowance. If I wanted going out money, my dad would pull out his guitar and play a Beatles song. I had to name the tune and then he'd reward me with some cash. That's some good parenting.
  2. Souvenir- Orchestral Maneuvers In The Dark
So much synthesizer goodness makes this soooooo dreamy. It makes me feel alive!
  3. Next Lifetime- Erykah Badu
Badu is the ultimate badass. The queen of neo-soul❤️
  4. Cheerleader- St. Vincent
I get the chills listening to this song. It's kind of my anthem. Annie Clark is my major girl crush💞
  5. Only Ones Who Know- Arctic Monkeys
brb while I emotionally self destruct
  6. Blessed-Elton John
One of my mom's favorite songs, you could hear her serenading this around the house 24/7. She says she would always play this song when she was pregnant with me and my twin sister.
  7. Inner City Blues-Marvin Gaye
Important lyrics. One of those five minute songs you wish were even longer. Also this was used in one of my favorite movies (A Most Violent Year) (shouts out to my man Oscar Issac)
  8. Word on a Wing- David Bowie
    ❤️😔❤️😔❤️
  9. Reflection- Lea Salonga
MULAN! Growing up a young Asian girl with rarely any Asian faces to look up to on the big screen, you best believe Mulan was my jam. I aspire to be as badass as she was when she stopped Shan Yu from taking over Imperial City.
  10. Bad Religion- Frank Ocean
Frank Ocean's songs will always be there for me. Frank Ocean on the other hand? Not so much.
  11. Wake up Everybody- Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes
"the world won't get no better, if we just let it be"
