SOUTHERN EXPRESSIONS I GREW UP WITH

  1. In the back 40
As in back 40 acres, waaaay far out of the way.
  2. Lord willing and the creek don't rise
As close as you can get to saying you'll 100% do something
  3. Whatchu know good?
A greeting. Like tell me what good things you know. Nice, right?
  4. A face that could make a freight train take a dirt road
    Now that's ugly.
  5. Uglier than homemade soap
Also ugly, I guess. Homemade soap sounds kind of artisan nowadays though.
  6. Plum out
As in "I'm plum out of list ideas."
  7. I don't have a dog in that fight.
I'm staying out of it. It doesn't have anything to do with me.
  8. Whistle britches
Someone who needs a lot of attention, vain, thinks themselves to be better and smarter but is really an idiot. Often dressing in a hilarious fashion. "Go ask whistle britches."
  9. Acting ugly
Is this southern? I suspect it is. As well as "being ugly."
  10. Out of pocket
Meaning, no one can find you. "I tried to call you, but you were out of pocket all afternoon."
