  1. Perpend
    The vertical joint between two bricks. Usually filled with mortar
  2. Stretcher
    Brick laid flat with its long narrow side exposed
  3. Header
    Brick laid flat with its width exposed
  4. Soldier
    Brick laid vertically with its long narrow side exposed
  5. Sailor
    Brick laid vertically with the broad face of the brick exposed
  6. Rowlock
    Brick laid on the long narrow side with the short end of the brick exposed
  7. Shiner
    Brick laid on the long narrow side with the broad face of the brick exposed
  8. Flemish bond
    Alternating headers and stretchers, with the headers of one course(row) centered over the stretchers of the course below.
  9. Monk Bond
    Two stretchers then a header, repeating. Headers centered over the perpend between the two stretchers on the course below.
  10. Running Bond
    Just stretchers, stretchers of each course offset by half. Not a solid brick wall, usually only used as a covering for other structural walls
