Soon, I'll live in a country where mass protests were held after the new president was sworn in

  1. Does this boggle anyone else's mind?
  2. I know this is so ignorant of me, but I just never thought that would happen in the USA
  3. I mean, I'm not naive enough to think that people always have been or will be happy with the outcome of our elections
I know there have been minor protests after tons of elections
  4. But when I hear of big protests after an election, I think of the Philippines, Egypt, Ukraine, Brazil, Romania, etc
  5. I used to hear about situations like this in other countries and wonder how things got to that point
  6. But then we went and "elected" a monster who is choosing other monsters to help him run our country
  7. And I feel like I now have the smallest understanding of other countries and their elections
Sometimes things just spiral out of control
  8. I was so embarrassingly idealistic, like "La la la, sometimes I won't agree with the president but we'll be fine."
  9. But here we are, on the cusp of something that I can't even begin to describe
  10. And I'm scared and angry and I don't know what to do
  11. And all I can think about is how this isn't the country I thought it was anymore
I've thought this numerous times over the past couple of years, but this feeling is particularly strong now
  12. I feel like this presidency is like a pause on what I thought America was
