The Worst Kind of News

  1. I have a distant relative from London who I met for the first time a month ago and instantly bonded with. He's someone I felt that familial love for as though we had known each other for ages.
  2. I have heard stories about this "cousin" of mine for years. Smart, handsome, hardworking, wonderful family.
  3. Yesterday, I found out he had pancreatic cancer.
  4. An hour ago, I found out it's stage 4 and has progressed so much, he might not live to see tomorrow.
  5. Amidst all the tears streaming from my eyes, I managed to book a flight to go home in a few hours to see him.
  6. All I can think about his wonderfully sweet wife, their 3-year-old daughter, and their 5-month-old daughter.
  7. I can't believe he'll soon be gone. He's going to miss all these milestones, the life he's dreamed of.
  8. The thing I take solace in is knowing that in Hinduism, we are reborn. So if you do leave this world, dear cousin, I will see you again.
  9. I can only pray for a miracle. I ask that you do, too, or give your well wishes in any form you like.
  10. I'll keep you all posted, and thank you for the support I already know I'm going to get.
  11. Update: He passed away while I was flying home. So thankful for all of you in these times.
