HOW TO AVOID BEING ATTACKED BY A BEAR WHILE HIKING

  1. Travel in large groups of three or more.
  2. Make lots of noise to scare them away. Lots of people sing songs or play music!
  3. Wear big, ostentatious headwear to make yourself seem bigger than you are. Many hikers choose these festive caps.
  4. Always have a leader at the front who is waving a big stick around to scare off the bear.
  5. Hike in rhythm so you don't get separated.
  6. Bring at least one tuba--Bears HATE tubas.
