I liked a guy. This was our third or fourth date, downtown LA, as chronicled in my journal from November 2014:
  1. Perch
    2d1f6663 892c 4fe9 8c9a 31be728e4878
This is the cutest little rooftop place in the universe and I could be up here overlooking the city all day but it's super expensive. According to the journal I had a dark and stormy and he had a glass of red. We watched the ice skaters in Pershing Square from above. I paid the tab to be fancy.
  2. Caravan Bookstore
    79cce4c5 f47d 4d1f be93 1669fabbc5f3
Nothing fills me with more joy and calm than an old bookstore. This one has this sort of orange glow and everything in it is ancient and charming. I went directly to the section where the plays were and he went directly to the section where the books about buildings were. I read the backs of old post cards aloud to him in a funny voice. He bought us a stack.
  3. Starbucks
    Ce33cad7 593a 4a89 b911 64ac9a81788a
    We took shots of expresso.
  4. Casey's Irish Pub
    42507d2c 390a 49e5 ae74 d0630ce2d55d
God I love this place. Underground Irish pub that reminds me of college and Boston and old drunk men singing and exposed brick and debauchery. We drank many beers and I taught him how to play cricket (darts), listened to some live music.
  5. SPiN at The Standard Hotel
    Bdef97f1 97c5 45de b730 36657da2b556
Attempted to play ping pong. More beer.
  6. 7-Eleven
    85178a42 d5e1 482e 9548 ceb73e26d27d
"Bought man w/ GOD tattoo'd on his forehead a hot dog & chips, then bought his friend one, too. Aleks bought gum." Okay.
  7. Seven Grand
    9a4fba62 4051 467b 8f0e 16c2b77fa6ba
Another absolute DTLA favorite. Old school whiskey bar with plaid everywhere and pool tables and leather and cigar smoke outside. "Aleks bumps into his friend from model UN and also spills his entire Amaretto Sour on me." This was terrible. The friend from model UN and the spilling.
  8. Subway
    E1ed5a13 925a 43fe 8cd7 64788e8506bc
"Aleks buys me a sandwich but I'm sort of too drunk to eat it." On we go, then!
  9. Honeycut
    Daf91b69 4026 408d a21f 6883fbc0989a
Of course, because an underground disco complete with light up floor and cocktails on draft is the natural 9th stop on a marathon date. This place is fucking fun ya'll. "Dancing. Taking photos. Lance Bass was there." Lance Bass was there.
  10. Brite Spot
    24ac372b f5b4 451b a761 ae57a85d7fb5
Took an uber there. The late night retro diner next to my house. It's perfect inside but the food is overpriced and average. But "who even knows at this point..."
  11. Home
    This part is NC-17.
  12. "I'm insecure and a bully, sometimes. I say too much and repeat myself but also withhold. I'm good at this but I'm bad at this."
  13. "It's raining rare rain."
  14. Mohawk Bend
    0efa1df2 7bef 4fe3 a3f7 d9f1d1625fc8
Brunch, after many hours hung over in bed. My neighborhood go-to. Used to be a movie theater decades ago. Tons of craft beer and great pizza.
  15. "We walk home in the rain."
  16. "He is so odd and cute."
  17. "We spent far too much money but I don't care."
  18. "He left and I fell into a deep, strange sleep."
  19. "And not to be too dramatic but I awoke so light headed and disoriented I truly felt of another world or time or place, with the rain still falling and this feeling I was hovering outside myself."
  20. "We are texting about sneakers."
  21. "There's more to come, I feel."
