SOME THINGS FROM MY WEEKEND IN HOOD RIVER, OREGON

  1. β€’
I went to visit my dear sweet beautiful pal Marlowe who moved out of LA back to Oregon because she was following her bliss and I'm so proud of her.
  2. β€’
It was autumn in the air and the sweater I was wearing made sense and my heart was full and happy
  3. β€’
We went to town and drank beers and ate a delish pizza at Double Mountain Brewery. This was like, one of the four breweries in the small town of Hood. There are too many beers in Oregon in general and I wanted 100% of them!!!!!!
  4. β€’
Of course the town was overtaken by a man's muumuu birthday party. And there were so many men and women rolling round town in muumuus. I sang I Try by Macy Gray at a karaoke bar we passed and the audience could not have been more kind. Why do people live in LA?
  5. β€’
We purchased a Scorpion bowl at an institution called Jack's with a back room for Top 40 dancing and it was my favorite place in America we danced so very much. No geotag available.
  6. β€’
I WOKE UP TO THIS VIEW AND WANTED TO DIE BECAUSE IT WAS SO BEAUTIFUL AND THE AIR WAS SO CRISP AND CLEAN
  7. β€’
On Saturday we were to attend a pig roast in Lyle, Oregon and at the request of Harry, an 83 year old Vietnam war vet, Marlowe was to bake her "world famous" strawberry rhubarb pie from scratch
  8. β€’
(This is what I love about seeing my friends in the worlds they have chosen, the worlds they arrived at from following their bliss. You discover that they have "world famous" pies and 83 year old friends)
  9. β€’
    We baked the pies.
  10. β€’
But not before going to an antique store and having the best breakfast sandwich I have ever had on God's green Earth at River Daze Cafe. Go here. No geotag avail.
  11. β€’
    The pig roast.
  12. β€’
    Was the nicest.
  13. β€’
This is Harry. He is magnificent. Guess what? It was actually his 84th BIRTHDAY PARTY. We had no idea.
  14. β€’
    Me and Pongo the dog!
  15. β€’
He was very huge and super not into photos:
  16. β€’
You guys. Harry's daughter from Hawaii came to surprise him with his grandson and his great grandson. He was so goddamn pleased, it was the sweetest thing I ever saw. Four generations!! All in one hug!! Should we all be so blessed.
  17. β€’
The pie had to cool on a window sill because we were in a fairy tale
  18. β€’
    My lady and her pie:
    It was a hit!
  19. β€’
FFWD: I got drunk enough to hold fish heads!
  20. β€’
We went back into Hood and I got even more drunk! I met lots of people and even one scary clown!
  21. β€’
** The Scorpion bowl / Jacks in general was not as fun the second night / my body was not super pleased with this choice.**
  22. β€’
Very hung over at a very nice waterfall on the way to Portland:
  23. β€’
In Portland we walked down Alberta street and went to McMenamins Kennedy School which is so fucking rad -- an old elementary school transformed into a hotel with multiple bars and a restaurant and a pool and a movie theater (!!)
  24. β€’
Had the best dinner I've had in a LONG time at Screen Door, soul food so good you wanna slap somebody.
  25. β€’
But really I think the best thing is just that everyone was so nice. Everyone.
  26. β€’
And I got to see Ms. Marlowe in actual autumn, in all her bad ass, happy-hearted bliss-following glory.
