    Skincare is KEY
Your makeup will look like garbage if your skincare isn't on point. Exfoliate, cleanse, and moisturize! So so important . Also, serums can be your best friend if you find the right one!

Match your foundation to your neck and chest.
Don't swatch concealer or foundation on your hand for a match. Always swatch on your jawline and see how it compares to your face and neck. Blend out to see how it sits on your skin! If you can't get an exact match, always go a little lighter cause you can fix that with bronzer!

    Use concealer wisely.
You don't necessary have to lay on the concealer like most people do in YouTube tutorials. The best makeup artists use concealer for spot treating, coverage, and a little brightness in the under eye. Using too much can make your skin look cakey and unnatural. It's best to have two, one skintone shade and one that is one shade lighter for brightening. LA Girl Pro Concealers are $2.50 and can be found on

    Find your everyday blush
That natural flush can be hard to find sometimes with all the different colored blushes out there. A blush palette can give you variety while also helping you to figure out which tones work best on your skin. Elf has one for $6...just saying.

    Everyone needs a good highlighter
A non-glittery highlight takes your face from 'meh' to 'J.Lo' in 30 seconds (or something more in between if that's your style). Apply to any areas you want to bring forward and that you want to emphasize when light hits your face. My personal favorite is the Hard Candy Baked 'Bronzer' that's actually a beautiful highlight. They have a bunch of shades!

Bronzer and blush placement are crucial.
Your face shape AND desired face shape are going to determine where you put your bronzer and blush. Someone with already rounded cheeks who might want to make them seem less pronounced would not put blush on the apples of the cheeks for example. Also, putting bronzer too low under the cheekbones will end up making the face look dirty. Targeted placement is important to achieving the exact look you want.

Tightlining will change your eye game forever
Tightlining is the process of using a kohl or regular eyeliner pencil to fill in the space between your upper waterline, and your eyeliner. This method will make the base of your lashes appear more voluminous and will give you a much more seamless eye look, whether you're wearing winged eyeliner or just tight lining by itself. I also line my upper waterline but that is a personal preference.

Take care of your lashes and make any mascara work for you
Buy a good quality eye makeup remover that GENTLY removes your makeup. The skin around your eyes is 10x thinner than the rest of your face. Gently removing your eye makeup will help your lashes to grow longer and thicker, making even the most mediocre mascaras look amazing. Benefit They're Real! Mascara lengthens spectacularly and can be built up without clumping for volume.

    Recognize good eyeshadow formulas
Eyeshadow quality is all over the place in the beauty industry. Even within brands, some eyeshadows can be extremely high quality while some are absolute garbage. A shadow's ability to blend is the most important because you almost always want a flawless look where shadows can easily blend into your skin and into other shadows. Strong pigmentation and a formula that's not too dry are qualities that are specific to the individual but should also be considered when purchasing shadows.

Experiment with different lip colors and finishes!
Glosses, stains, balms, butters, lipsticks, etc. there are so many different finishes and formulas for lip colors. I don't think there are any real rules to lipstick (or any makeup for that matter), just remember to apply carefully! Sloppy application can ruin an entire look. I personally love finding lip liners and they're almost always affordable. They will clean up your look and help it to last longer.

    Just have fun with it!
Makeup comes off in less than a minute. Don't agonize over something that you think you can't pull off or that doesn't look exactly right. Play around with colors, methods of application, whatever. You do you boo! β€οΈπŸ’πŸ½πŸ’πŸ»πŸ’πŸΌπŸ’πŸΎπŸ’πŸΏ

Honorary mention to brushes and makeup sponges
A good sponge for foundation application can change your life. Invest in a beautyblender ($20, cult favorite) or Real Techniques miracle complexion sponge ($6.99), run under the faucet until completely soaked, then squeeze out all the water and use to apply foundation in a patting/bouncing/stippling motion. Gives the most amazing natural skin finish! A good foundation buffing brush in place of a sponge can also give you that airbrushed look we all want with minimal effort.
