1. American Ultra
    There's something about smaller scale action movies that make me feel warm inside, so I liked it a lot. But also Jesse eisengberg and Kristin Stewart's relationship was the best lived-in dating I've seen on screen in a long long time. While maybe it's parts veer hard away from other parts, it embraced more of what make movies great than most other movies of the year

    I don't know why August is so American. Howard Hawks would be proud of the screwball tradition being brought to navel gazing like this. Noah baumbach does a great job taking things out of mumble core malaise and into real fucking movies. Lola Kirke and Greta gerwig have a great vibe that is comfortable and uncomfortable at the same time. And has a lot of thoughtful commentary on youth and money
