FINE DINING IN SAN FRANCISCO RESTAURANTS

You gotta eat. Might as well enjoy it. I'm not a true foodie but nutrition can be delicious. Here's where to take your taste buds when you find yourself in San Francisco looking to treat yo'self and go big. 🍴

    Californios
This new mission place offers a fun, fancy twist on Mexican. It isn't a big restaurant and it isn't accessible (how do wheelchair diners navigate to the bathroom upstairs?). But the couple who run it are friendly, the dishes are delicious, and the decor is handsome without being intimidating. Wasn't paying so can't tell you if the cost was worth it πŸ’΅β“but if you want a fancy feast, go!

Crazy, inventive Daniel Patterson creations. This is truly food art. I hear he's not spending much time there nowadays so will be interesting to see if holds up. When I went it was foams and gels and food outta Seuss. I was impressed because these concoctions delighted the palate. πŸ§€πŸ¨Cheddar cheese ice cream--wha? No clue what the bill came to πŸ’΅β“Know in advance: Adjacent to strip clubs.

A friend from of town was here for Salesforce conference. Friend had an expense account and a rez. Naturally, we got the wine pairing too. Loved the gagillion courses, the open kitchen, and the obsequious service. Ate stuff I never even knew existed. (River goat? Not sure what it is but it's delicious.) Left here happy--could have been the company or the vino. Didn't see the bill, didn't care. πŸ’΅β“

    Quince
Used to be able to order off a menu. Now it's a fixed, multi-course scenario. (Wish I had known that before I agreed to go!) Risotto with shaved truffle? Yes please! Caviar? Don't mind if I do! <<those two are extra, but why not? Again, didn't pay so πŸ’΅β“

    KEIKO Γ  Nob Hill
Food is pretty good, tho it went from like 7 courses to 11 courses recently. The space is kinda stuffy/boring/weird though. I wasn't paying so not sure if it was worth the money = πŸ’΅β“

    Sons and Daughters
Appropriately obsequious service. So-so food (halibut was overdone). Really quiet space.

    Gary Danko
Good for romantic date, good for out of town guests, good for special occasion. Be sure to eat dessert 🍰

    Michael Mina
Every meal I had here was great with one exception--an organized group work dinner which was pretty horrible (set menu, too!). Haven't been back since but would try again.

    Rich Table
Prob my fave. Not prix fixe and you aren't sitting at the table endlessly waiting for small portions of exotic, unpronounceable bites. Casual vibe. Just good food. Go here!

Been going for years so part of my love is just good old nostalgia. You get live jazz! 🎷🎀 Look at the art (except the clown pic) downstairs and up. Order the potato pillows and the ceviche. I hate bananas but I adore the bananas foster here 🍌🍨

    Monsieur Benjamin
My brother was in town shooting exteriors of San Francisco for the movie AntMan (which was filmed almost entirely in Atlanta, btw). We couldn't get in Rich Table so we went here, ate oysters, salads, yummy fish dishes. He paid. But I've gone back on my dime and think it's worth it. The layout is funky but you get used to it.

    Coqueta
People have mixed reviews of Michael Chiarello and his establishments, but go here and try a few things. You'll find something good if you do.
  14. β€’
    State Bird Provisions
It's outrageously good. Their joint up the street (progress?) is supposed to be good too.
  15. β€’
    Spruce
Great space. Yum. Options for private events.

    Cotogna
Next door to Quince and same owners. Totally different concept. Way more affordable. Wood oven, comforting Italian. All wines are the same price.
