WHY ARE THERE SO MANY SONGS ABOUT RAINBOWS …

Can we talk about how absolutely beautiful Rainbow Connection is? (Major thanks to http://muppet.wikia.com/wiki/The_Rainbow_Connection for lots of interesting info used here)
  1. 1979's The Muppet Movie opens with a beautiful scene showing Kermit sitting on a log in a swamp with his banjo
The set was created on/in a water tank on the studio backlot. It was the same water tank that was used for the lagoon in Gilligan's Island)
  2. Jim Henson actually spent 5 days in a metal tank under the water with a monitor and air hose, so that he could still control Kermit's mouth and movements manually instead of with an overhead rig
Henson later said that it was not the kind of set up that someone with claustrophobia would want to go in.
  3. This was the Muppets big screen introduction, and they wanted to open with a song that would show the Muppet philosophy, much like Disney's Pinocchio opened with Jiminy Cricket singing "When You Wish Upon a Star"
Kermit was always positive and upbeat, no matter the circumstances.
  4. Paul Williams and Kenneth Ascher came up with this beautiful song about having big ideas and having the strength to try them
Kermit was always a dreamer :-)
  5. How about the lyrics:
  6. Why are there so many songs about rainbows? And what's on the other side?

This is a pretty negative view of rainbows.

A good group to be a part of. Lovers and dreamers :-)

    Back to Jiminy Cricket …

  15. Have you been half asleep? And have you heard voices? I've heard them calling my name. Is this the sweet sound that called the young sailors? The voice might be one in the same
It's that little voice inside of you telling you to follow your dreams. Don't give up on yourself. A little like … Jiminy Cricket again!
  16. I've heard it too many times to ignore it. It's something that I'm supposed to be.
I love that Kermit goes all in here. No doubts. It's something that he's supposed to be
